A team from specialist personal injury law firm Novum Law is swapping suits and shoes for running shorts and trainers as they get in shape for the relay event in October.
Josh Hughes, Hannah Carr and Amy Barron, lawyers from Novum’s Salisbury office and David Lockyer, Novum’s Quality & Risk Manager from the Bristol office, will be running to raise much-needed funds for the local brain injury charity, Headway Salisbury and South Wiltshire, which relies entirely on voluntary donations.
Headway provides help, support and advice to people living in the Salisbury area who have suffered a brain injury and offers services including rehabilitation programmes, carer support, social re-integration, community outreach and respite care.
As Josh says: “In our work as personal injury lawyers, we come into daily contact with people who’ve suffered brain injuries and we understand only too well the devastating impact it can have on them and their loved ones. To have a place where you can meet people who understand what you’re going through, to be given a helping hand and offered therapies such as cognitive rehabilitation, speech and language classes, cooking groups and art therapy is an absolute lifeline.
“As more and more people survive serious accidents and illnesses, the numbers of individuals living with a brain injury are increasing and the need for Headway’s valuable work is growing. We hope that as many people as possible will dig deep and support us as we take on the challenge to raise funds for this vital local charity.”
It was Josh who first had the idea of entering a relay team into the race, after he came across a flyer at his local gym. Looking around the office, he didn’t have to do too much arm-twisting to bring Hannah and Amy on board: Hannah has just completed a Tough Mudder in aid of Headway and is now gearing up for the 2018 London Marathon, while Amy apparently puts everyone to shame with her daily 6am pre-work runs. David is new to the firm: during his introduction in May, he mentioned that he was a keen runner, with several half marathons under his belt, and so was signed up on the spot. With all his experience, the good money is on him to tackle the infamous Broughton to Farley Mount leg.
The Clarendon is just one aspect of Novum’s on-going efforts to support local charities. In fact, both Hannah and Josh are trustees of Headway Salisbury & South Wiltshire and will be attending the charity’s black tie ball the night before the race - which means that they are either very, very confident about their training schedule, or… they don’t know what’s about to hit them!
