Sandhurst Joggers Relay Team

Sandhurst Joggers are a social running club from Berkshire. Their busy schedule is recorded in their Twitter feed (@SandhurstJogger) and their blog of race reports (thejoggersjournal.wordpress.com). In 2017 they entered a mixed relay team for the Clarendon Marathon, and this is how it went:

Stuart Mann

Stuart Mann Completed the Clarendon in 2017

If you take a look at Stuart Mann's twitter feed (@runningmann100) you get the impression of a typically outdoorsy South African lifestyle, with non-stop sunshine and races that take in the Cape Winelands, game reserves (watch out for the elephant poo!) and the Kalahari Desert. So how did he find the 2017 Clarendon Marathon – a year that was, shall we say, “good for mud”?

From Clarendon to Uganda...and Back Again...

I adore running. At school I dabbled in it, and then again as part of the Athletics team at the University of Winchester. However, it wasn’t until I ran the Clarendon Marathon in 2014 that my real passion for running began - a decision which has shaped much of my life over the last three years.

And truth be told...the original idea wasn’t mine. My best mate, Andy Bownds, was searching for a marathon in the area where we both went to university. He discovered the Clarendon, and signed us both up - telling me he’d pay for my entry as a birthday present...thanks Andy...I think!?

Shentons

Shentons have again this year entered a relay team of four, running from Salisbury to Winchester. This is to raise funds for their charity ‘Solent Mind'.

The all-girl team are: Alex Chessum, Chloe Jay, Lisa Warriner and Gwyneth McLaughlin. They are led, coached, driven and captained, by their senior partner Shaun Underhill.

Shona Thomson

I'm Shona Thomson, 10-time marathoner but Clarendon Way will be my first cross-country race. I will be running the half (and hopefully the full next year!)

I decided to run to raise funds for Alzheimer's Research UK, in honour of my Mum, Dorothy, who passed away in July this year, and also my Dad, who has recently been diagnosed.

Asia Zmyslona

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of races every year across UK. The reasons why we decide to take part in a specific one might be very different; because it is popular, it is challenging, it is really fast one.

Jim Martin

I’m Jim Martin, 62, and I ran 20 consecutive London Marathons from when I was 39 to when I was 59 – all on behalf of St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney.  My Mother-in-Law passed away in St Joseph’s as I was training for my first London Marathon. The care, attention and love she received during the last 10 days of her life have motivated me to raise money for the charity over 20 years.

David Rush

David Rush will be running the full marathon to raise funds for ShelterBox, who provide emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by disaster.
